Seed Collection Data Recording and Project Management:

Detailed seed collection data sheets are compiled for each species collected which include clear provenance information, vegetational composition, collector information etc.

Precise GPS locational information is also recorded into a purpose built Geospatial database, which is under continual development using latest GPS mapping and locational technology.

Plant pressings are taken for each batch of seed collected for positive identification.

Native Seed Collection

Seed Processing, Cleaning and Storage

Seeds are machine cleaned and stored in a climate controlled room with low humidity.

Special attention is given to ensure seeds are kept dry during the collection process.

Seed viability and germination tests are available if requested.

Seed Collection Database and Provenance Recording

Seed collection provenance information is recorded in a Geo-Spatial database using latest mapping technology, which ensures relevant provenance information is provided for every species collected in a easily readable and accessible format.

This database is updated on a regular basis and provides a highly accurate and detailed system of management by which our seed collections take place through out the year.

This is one way that NSA seeks to maintain clear and easily accessible best practice operations in the collection of native seeds, and recording of critical provenance information.
